The Zimmerit coating, developed by the German chemical company Chemische Werke Zimmer & Co., was applied to German armored vehicles in mid-late WWII, specifically from August 1943 until September 1944. This coating had the function of protecting armored vehicles from infantry HEAT magnetic mines being placed on their surfaces. The idea was to apply a coat of Zimmerit paste on the armor to create a rough, non-magnetic surface that reduced the chances of mines sticking to the vehicle.

The coating was imprinted with textured patterns, often wavy or grid-shaped, using special tools. These patterns were not only highly distinctive, but also increased the effectiveness of the Zimmerit by reducing the contact area of the magnets with the surface of the vehicle.

How to use:

1. Clean and prepare the surface of the model

LIST OF GERMAN VEHICLES THAT USED ZIMMERIT:

Tanks:

• Pz.Kpfw. III. (Panzer III). When Zimmerit was introduced, production of these vehicles had already stopped, but it was applied on examples returned to the factory to be updated and transformed (for example in Ausf. N or in Pz.Beob.Wg.).
• Pz.Kpfw. IV (Panzer IV). Intermediate production models.
• Pz.Kpfw. Panther. Initial and intermediate production models. Very few Panthers Ausf. D received Zimmerit at the factory, most examples with it were applied in the field. The early manufactured Panthers Ausf. A, although the manufacturer had Zimmerit, did not receive it. In September 1944, some Panthers Ausf. G left the factories with the Zimmerit on the turret but not on the hull.
• Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. E (Tiger I). Intermediate and late production models.
• Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. B (Tiger II). Initial production models.
